Tre ragazzi purtroppo orfani, con delle doti magiche e un ricco patrimonio, vengono affidati ad uno zio avaro e prepotente. la figlia grande "l'inventrice", il secondo "il lettore fervido" e la terza "la roditrice". Riusciranno a scoprire che la morte dei genitori e degli altri tutori non è un caso, e che dietro a questa serie di sfortunati equivici c'è una persona. Un film uscito per Natale che vede eccellere su tutti la figura di Jim Carrey (anche se splendida è il personaggio interpretato da Maryl Streep). Il film si svolge in 4 episodi che sembrano ricalcare i tempi e i modi della fiaba. In una città indefinita, in un tempo vago, 3 bambini (protagonisti) sono vittima di uno zio (antagonista) che cercherà di portar via il loro patrimonio. Ad arricchire questa lineare storia le peripezie, talvolta macchinose, dei ragazzi con continui allontanamenti, infrazioni e lotte contro l'antagonista per poi, solo alla fine, giungere al riconoscimento degli eroi e conseguente punizione dell'antagonista. Da contorno ovviamente gli aiutanti a volte goffi a volte ritardati di entrambo i personaggi (antagonista vs protagonisti). Il film non è particolarmente riuscito, esso è sì simpatico ma solo grazie alla verve e alla bravura di un ottimo Jim Carrey che anima la pellicola. Grande pecca, che neppure il grande attore, così come Meryl Streep, riesce a risolvere è l'inesorabile assenza di ritmo. Voto: 6

E' una trama con tantissimi spunti, la zia Josephine piena di nevrosi è una chicca, e l'ambientazione molto bella, però hai ragione: anche per me il ritmo è molto importante nei film! Peccato!
Ho visto la recensione precedente, uno dei film indimenticabili, che personalmente adoro... Ho sempre avuto un debole per il personaggio di Blanche, e la sua fragilità e tenerezza, e Marlon Brando, pur così bello com'è in questo film, è capace di farsi odiare (il che evidenzia che era già anche bravissimo, superfluo dirlo). Il talento di Vivien Leigh però, è sopra tutti, qui, a mio parere, una delle sua prove migliori... E poi, io sono una estimatrice di Tennessee Williams...
Brava! Le frasi di Blanche nel film, hai fatto bene a ricordarle, sono leggendarie...di quelle da prendere come motto.
